How Nutrition Education Transforms Lives

Angela (age 23) had been to numerous doctors and therapists over the course of four years in her efforts to identify the cause of her abdominal pain, nausea, digestive disorders, fatigue, and depression. After a nutrition consultation, Angela learned that she might have a Candida (yeast) overgrowth. Angela did the Candida home test, which came out positive. Angela went on a Candida elimination diet, and within two weeks, Angela's symptoms disappeared. She soon lost an unwanted 12 pounds.

Bob (age 85) had been on statin drugs for 35 years for his high cholesterol. Long-term use of statin drugs is linked to onset of diabetes and other blood sugar regulation issues. (Bowden and Sinatra, 2012.) Bob had developed metabolic syndrome and was being carefully monitored. After learning more about nutrition and changing his diet, Bob was not only able to discontinue his statin drugs safely, but he also lost an unwanted 10 pounds and his A1c dropped back down to normal. His doctor is no longer monitoring him for pre-diabetes and has declared his blood sugar levels to be stable and well within a healthy range. He has been formally "undiagnosed" with metabolic syndrome. Bob's doctor was astonished to see these changes in someone Bob's age.

Jamal (age 62) had high blood pressure his entire adult life and had been on blood pressure medication for nearly 20 years. During the course of working with Jamal and his doctor, a nutritionies suggested that he be tested for metal toxicity. As it turned out, Jamal was suffering from lead poisoning, most likely initiated while he was serving in the Navy in his youth. Jamal's doctor prescribed a metal detoxification medication for Jamal and worked with his nutritionist to develop a liver detoxification plan (through food and supplements). Within two months Jamal's blood pressure came down significantly. Jamal and his doctor were able to reduce the dosage of his blood pressure meds, Jamal had more energy, and he lost an unwanted 10 pounds.
